ClubGonzo’s Just A Minute IPA

Just A Minute IPA by ClubGonzo, India Pale Ale, 6.5% ABV, 48 IBU.

Ah, finally an IPA! Yay!

This one pours a very cloudy orange body, a bit too cloudy to deserve to be called pretty, but the head makes up for the flaws of the body. The foamy top is large, off-white and never gets any smaller than a .5 cm layer. Lots of foam is left on my glass when the liquid is gone.

I'm a sucker for tropical IPAs. I downed this one before I had time to take a picture of the beer in the glass. But look at the lacing!

Just A Minute IPA, most of the hops were thrown in the last minute of the boil. I’m a sucker for tropical IPAs. I downed this one before I had time to take a picture of the beer in the glass. But look at the lacing!

Few things can beat the aroma of a well crafted IPA, and the scent of this one is certainly very inviting. It’s strong, fruity sweet and crisp and heavy hoppy, with truckloads of tropical fruits. I get peach, mango, melon and sweet lychee. Lovely!

The taste is light to moderate sweet and the long-lasting finish is moderate bitter. This beer might have been generously late hopped, but the brewer has been quite easy on the bittering hops. The flavours are not as intense and tropical as I’d hoped for, but they are still very nice. In addition to a subdued tropical feel, I get resinous notes and some sweet caramel in the late aftertaste.

The mouthfeel is average, nothing special but nothing wrong either. Medium body, dry to oily texture with a light dry finish and a moderate carbonation. And finally, believe it or not, I find no trace of any unpleasant or stinging alcohol.

Conclusion: a lovely hopped IPA with an amazing aroma and nice flavours. The moderate bitterness makes it very drinkable, although I wouldn’t mind an extra dose of bitterness.
